Syllabi for Multiple Course Sections

This course is designed to enable each student to demonstrate employability skills; environmental, health, and safety skills; professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities; financial, leadership and communication skills; human resources and labor skills; America's economic principles; entrepreneurship principles, relate planning methods to life and career goals and use of industry/technology principles in the workplace.

There will be various assignments associated with this course. Some of the assignments are projects using various computer/software applications that may be lengthy in nature and will require work outside of the class. A student notebook will be kept and should be brought to class each day. Students will be asked to participate in discussions and work on teams to complete projects. Work ethic and communication skills will be practiced on a daily basis. 

Students with one or more OJT periods are required to have employment outside of their household/family in a taxable income setting.

Course Objectives

  • Practice quality performance in the learning environment and the workplace
  • Incorporate business technique to enhance workplace performance
  • Apply knowledge of information systems and use technology to enhance communication skills
  • Learn financial planning strategies for personal and workplace use
  • Perform workplace functions in an appropriate manner
  • Explore career planning and opportunities for employment
  • Maintain time cards and monthly evaluations

Classroom Policies

  • Students are expected to be in their assigned seat with all required materials and supplies each day and ready to work when the tardy bell rings
  • NO cell phone usage in class without prior approval (calling in to check your schedule should be done on your OWN time, not at school)
  • If using a school computer, log in with your own credentials; do NOT give your password to another student
  • Restroom passes are issued for emergencies only; no personal grooming in class
  • No gum, food, or drink is permitted in the classroom; this is a computer lab
  • Students are to remain seated until the instructor dismisses class for the day
  • Students are responsible for all make-up work within three days of their absence. Pre-announced work is due as scheduled and must be emailed or posted on the due date. 

DCT Guidelines

  • All students must be employed at all times. If you leave one job, you must already have another
  • If you leave a job without notifying your Coordinator before you quit/leave, your grade will automatically drop a letter grade for the nine weeks
  • If you leave a job, you must submit a Letter of Resignation, notifying the employer that you are leaving and when your last day will be; two weeks prior to leave date is standard
  • While unemployed, in order to remain in DCT/OJT classes, you must be actively searching for a job and you must keep the Coordinator informed of all applications submitted
  • While unemployed, you have two weeks to find a job. While unemployed, you will remain on campus during DCT/OJT until 3:24 under the supervision of the Coordinator
  • Participation in all DCT activities is required, unless prior approval is given by the DCT Coordinator
  • If you are absent from school, you MAY NOT work that day
  • If you do not turn in your time card on time, your time card grade drops 10 points per day late
  • If you are suspended for any reason, you are to notify the DCT Coordinator immediately and are subject to removal from DCT/OJT and placed on a regular school schedule in regular classes
  • If you are fired, you may be dropped f rom DCT and your grade will be immediately affected. Notify the DCT Coordinator immediately. If he/she is not notified, you will be removed from DCT and placed on a regular school schedule. 

Evaluation

Grades will be derived from tests, quizzes, daily class assignments, presentations, projects and work toward earning an industry certification in a common employment area for student of this age.
