Hi and welcome the 2022-23 school year and to my website for GBHS! I am Heather Renfroe and I am currently in my 27th year of teaching, all of which have been at Gulf Breeze High School. I hold a Master's degree in Educational Administration & Leadership from National University in San Diego, CA, a Bachelor's degree in Business Education & Instructional Technology from The University of West Florida as well as an Associate's degree in Business Administration from Pensacola Junior College. In addition to college degrees, I hold certifications in Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Animate, Dreamweaver, InDesign and Illustrator. I have additional industry certifications as an Adobe Web Design Professional, an Adobe Graphic Design & Illustration Professional, a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, Information Technology Specialist in Computational Thinking, Intuit Design for Delight Innovator (Master Entrepreneurship Certification) and Communication Skills for Business (Professional Communication).
As the coordinator and lead instructor for the GBHS Academy of Multimedia Design & Technology and AP Computer Science, I try to encourage my students to step out of their comfort zone in the area of technology. My students have access to the entire Adobe CC Suite at school as well as at home. Digital Design students can earn one or more industry certifications, free, in various software programs throughout their coursework by taking and passing the Adobe Industry Certification exams offered in class. AP Computer Science Principles students will be completing the rigorous coursework and taking the APCSP Exam in May hoping to earn college credit and possibly be taking the Information Technology Specialist exam in Computational Thinking. DCT students will be learning about entrepreneurship and taking the Entrepreneurship & Small Business Certification Exam (ESB) as well as the Intuit Design for Delight Innovator Certification Exam!
I strive to keep up with current trends and issues in the field of technology education and regularly attend state and national conferences, am a member of several national, state and international organizations in the field of instructional and information technology, subscribe to national publications, attend professional development seminars, and additional training and competitions throughout the year.
I am delighted to have students interested in one or more of my specialties and am excited for the new school year.
